Ashley Walters, the actor who played Dushane Hill in the Netflix series Top Boy, has provided an answer to the question that he has been asked since the finale aired in 2023.
Spoilers ahead.
In the series finale, Sully is seen sitting in a car before a mystery figure walks by the car while he’s turning on the ignition and fires a single shot. Sully is killed and the identity of the shooter has been shrouded in secrecy.
On the latest episode of reWORKING with Tim Campbell, Walters explained that withholding the reveal of the shooter was intentional, saying he and Kane Robinson, who played Sully, pushed for that decision during the editing process.
“It was me and Kane that made the ending that way, because they had the whole killing and we went in the edit and we was like, 'Nah, don’t tell people who did it, cut it out, who did it,’” he said.
Walters said the thinking behind the decision was to keep the conversation about Top Boy going well beyond its finale.
“It’s because we want the show to live on, because we’re never going to do it again,” he said. “So, we want the show to live on, and that is the most hated question now, bro. ‘Who killed Sully?’”
After some backstory, Walters casually disclosed the answer, saying, “But yeah, Jaq.” So we now know the killer was Jacqueline “Jaq” Lawrence, played by Jasmine Jobson.
