Daft Punk have teamed up with LEGO for a new set based on the French electronic music duo's iconic stage design for their beloved live album, Alive 2007.
Rumors of a collaboration between LEGO and Daft Punk, who officially called it quits in 2021, have been circulating for quite some time, but was finally confirmed on Thursday (October 22).
Alongside a short teaser (which can be seen above) soundtracked by their songs "Voyager" and "Human After All," LEGO announced the partnership will span beyond official sets.
"What makes this partnership so special is the enduring appeal both brands share," said LEGO Group chief product and marketing officer, Julia Goldin. "Like the LEGO brand, Daft Punk inspires generations through creativity, innovation and a deep connection with fans. We’re excited to build on these foundations to reimagine the Daft Punk legacy in a fresh and unexpected way, creating something unique that resonates with fans across all ages."
Goldin added: "This is just the beginning of a bigger journey — a creative collab made for fans ready to lose themselves to play."
The idea for the partnership stems from the LEGO Ideas Music to Our Ears challenge in 2020, for which a father-and-son from Luxembourg created a tribute to the pyramid stage featured in Daft Punk's 2007 ALIVE tour, which was immortalized with their Grammy Award-winning live album, Alive 2007. The set helped them win the challenge, and it later received over 10,000 supporters on the LEGO Ideas platform.
"The pyramid stage is one of the most recognisable expressions of Daft Punk's visual world, so it feels fitting that this fan-created design will be centre stage of this partnership," said Daft Punk creative director, Cédric Hervet. "Fans have always played an important part in Daft Punk’s story, and we are excited to see that creativity reflected through the LEGO universe."
More information about the collaboration is expected to come next year.
