A terminally ill Grand Theft Auto fan who shared his wish to play Grand Theft Auto VI has passed away, just three weeks before the game’s launch.
The 25-year-old man, named Jerry (known online as Void Only), went viral back in August when he made a viral TikTok expressing his wish to play the game.
In a video, he explained that he had an interstitial lung disease and needed a lung transplant. Due to his unique health situation, any surgery he received would be very dangerous because his lungs were attached to his chest wall.
He also revealed in the same post that he really wanted to play GTA Vi, and even joked about Rockstar's multiple delays of the game. The popularity of his post inspired supporters to donate more than $50,000 in just a few days to help with paying for his transplant. The fundraiser currently sits at $101,000 at the time of this writing.
In September, Jerry got the transplant, but complications from the surgery caused him to eventually lose function of his body.
Jerry’s sister confirmed that he passed away on Oct. 29 in a video shared on TikTok, due to a series of infections and worsening health complications. “He was peaceful. He was at peace. He was peaceful. He was so peaceful,” she said. “And he’s no longer fighting. He’s no longer hurting. He’s no longer struggling.”
Jerry’s sister revealed that his mother is currently planning a balloon release event in his honor, with more details coming at a later date.
