2 Chainz has apologized after a debate with Keith Lee went viral, with the rapper’s remarks facing extra scrutiny.
On the Sunday (Nov. 1) episode of Kirk Franklin’s Den of Kings, the rapper confronted popular food reviewer Keith Lee about giving his restaurant chain, Esco Restaurant and Tapas, a negative rating, although such a review doesn’t exist. 2 Chainz was possibly referring to the restaurant getting a poor review by fellow food content creator Mr. ChimeTime.
The discussion turned into a debate about celebrities receiving favoritism at public establishments. "I'm an entertainer and obviously we get perks that other people don't get," 2 Chainz said on Den of Kings. "I don't stand in line at the airport. I don't do none of that because I done work my ass off to do this."
After receiving a poor response from Den of Kings viewers, the rapper tweeted an apology on Tuesday (Nov. 3). "I got a chance to speak to Keith after the podcast and it was all love,” he wrote. “I know my words offended some people and I apologize for that. What I said and what I meant were two different things. I could've done a better job getting my point across."
Along with claiming that Lee couldn’t judge Esco Restaurant based off his opinion, 2 Chainz also asked whether Lee being a former pro MMA fighter affects his palate. The content creator separately recalled having his mom and wife entering restaurants before him, where they were largely ignored until he came in.
“I don't ever want to put nobody in a situation that they get a different experience only because they not Keith Lee,” he said. “So, it's like if honesty comes with that and me saying this is how our experience was, if I got to get the backlash for that, I'm okay with that."
