The Cars We're Most Looking Forward to for the Rest of 2013

It's hard to believe that there are still four more months of auto action left in the year (almost as hard to believe that it's already almost September!) This year has been, by far, one of the wildest in terms of car debuts, car concepts, and car sales. Manufacturers have stopped being so conservative with their designs and have opted for more appealing global designs that will help propel sales. Some companies have created cars that nobody had even seen in their wildest dreams (ahemLamborghinicoughcough). And some have continued to expand on new brand identies that pull away from stale, lingering affects of the two-thousands.

Three major motor shows are still sitting in the chamber for the backside of 2013: the Frankfurt show, the L.A. show, and the Tokyo show. Frankfurt is set to be a madhouse, as usual, and L.A. has already confirmed at least more debuts. Let us take you through what we know so far about upcoming vehicles with The Cars We're Most Looking Forward to for the Rest of 2013.

Expected Release: Frankfurt

While a bunch of other makers known for their sports cars are catching up trying to build their first crossovers and SUVs, Porsche has been busy building its second. The baby Cayenne is almost here, and there's a turbo coming with it.

FINALLY, General Motors is bringing out some new small trucks for America.

No, there won't be a hatchback, which takes away some of our excitement, but a new WRX, which will be modeled after this sweet concept, is still going to stir our loins a bit. Let's just hope it's not too tame, compared to what the initial looks showed off.

It's just a necessity to bring SUVs to the lineup these day. Jaguar has been hitting fairways lately and with word that it'll be in the $35,000-$40,000 range and will possibly be based on the Range Rover Evoque, we're curious to see what this will look like.

It's pretty incredible how much our ears perk up when we hear something new is coming out of Korea these days. Kia's Cub, Provo, and Cross GT all impressed, so we're pumped to see what this new concept, which will fit in the B-segment, will look like. The first two teasers looked pretty sultry.

A hybrid Yaris with more than 400 horsepower. I repeat, a hybrid Yaris with more than 400 horsepower. One more time: a hybrid Yaris with more than 400 horsepower. It has a TS030-inspired drivetrain, and will use hybrid technology from Toyota's Le Mans car. That means an estimated 650 lb-ft of torque, and a high speed of 160 mph. Yeesh.

And then there's Audi's plug-in hybrid supercar. This thing is expected to have a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 gas engine coupled with an 170hp electric motor, not to mention the four-wheel-drive, of course. With stunning looks like these sketches show and an estimated 800 horsepower, it's going to be one of the most talked about cars of the entire year, let alone the third quarter.

A lot of teasers just piss us off, because they barely give any reason to get excited about anything. Lexus' newest teaser is not one of those types. It looks like this could be the production version of the LF-CC, a sick-looking coupe that will likely have hybrid and turbo versions.

Although some people enjoy the blocky appeal, Volvo knows it has to make some some design changes to attract new attention. This concept is supposed to do that. We want to be excited about Volvo, so we're hoping this doesn't disappoint.

Unfortunately, we won't be getting Infiniti supercars until 2018 (why even bother announcing that?). What we do get is a new segment-bending vehicle that has notes of a coupe, a hatchback, and a crossover.

Damn straight this thing is special. Six hundred and five horses out of a naturally aspirated V8? You kidding me?

Sure, the first official images have already come out, but they've only made us want to see this thing live even more. And this isn't just one car, it's basically what we can expect from Opel in the future, as this concept "gives outlook for Opel brand strategy." The wings help give this an open, airy look.

The XFR-S is Jaguar's most powerful sedan ever. It has a 550hp V8 that gets to 60 in 4.4 seconds and has a high speed of 186. Now you're telling me the British are making a sportbrake version? You already know how we feel about the CTS-V Wagon, so it should come as no surprise that this car is high on our list.

The first installment of BMW's new "i" division, the i3, was just released, and we love what we were given so far (haven't driven it yet, but seems like a winner). And that was just a city car. This is a hybrid supercar with similar attractive looks and will be the culimation of many years and various concepts. The car will likely have a three-cylinder running the back, with an electric motor powering up front.

We've got the CX-9, we've got the CX-5, we've got the Mazda6 and we've got the Mazda3. All following a new design styling. Aside from the Mazda2, that leaves one more big unveiling for Mazda: a refreshed MX-5. We can't wait to see the new tux on one of our favorite cars to drive.

Expected Release: October 7 in NYC

We've been hearing about the new Escalade since we went to Pebble Beach not this summer but last summer. The people who had seen it then wouldn't stop talking about how incredible and ground-breaking the interior would be. Escalade has been building up to this for more than two years now, and the fact that they've kept the looks of the vehicle under tight wraps makes us want to see it even more. Good thing we'lll be there for the official unveiling.
