Despite the frigid temperature clinging onto us like this terrified cat about to have a bath (you're welcome for the link), April is around the corner and spring has officially sprung. Unfortunately, this means April showers are about to do their thing, so you'll have to be smart and plan some nights indoors. Having said this, if you happen to subscribe to Netflix, you already have your staycations on lock. The streaming service always delivers and this month isn't any different, with a bunch of great content headed your way in the upcoming weeks. Whether you're a comedy nerd or an action junkie, you'll find something worthwhile on your Netflix app. So get our your comfiest pair of sweatpants and stock up on some popcorn. Here are some of the best titles available to stream on Netflix Canada this April.
Movies
If you happen to know what's good, you've probably taken in Dave Chappelle's first two Netflix specials. In fact, you've probably seen the two hours back-to-back and you've likely watched them multiple times. Don't feel embarrassed, we're right there with you fam. Thankfully, the comedy streak doesn't end here thanks to the debut of highly anticipated material from Louis C.K. It's been two years since the superstar comedian released a stand-up special, but that's given the writer some much-needed time to craft this latest hour. When Louis C.K. 2017 lands onto Netflix in the first week of April, it'll be essential viewing.
If you're looking for something a little different: the intense Mad Max reboot, Fury Road, will crash onto your screen on April 9th. The 2015 dystopian thriller is absolutely incredible, and if you want the visual equivalent of drinking a pack of Red Bull, this is the movie for you. Other monthly standouts include The Chronicles of Riddick, Entourage, and the music doc, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Animated adventure, Rio 2, is also slated for an April release if you're looking for CGI birds singing some pop bangers. Titanic will also be available to stream this month so prepare to draw us like one of your French girls.
Television
Netflix Canada's movie selection this month is pretty dope, but the television category has all of the real winners. Not only do we get returning episodes of The Mindy Project, Shameless, and The Get Down, but we also receive some exciting new shows. After a lengthy on-screen hiatus, Bill Nye the Science Guy returns to our television sets with his latest series, Bill Nye Saves the World. The new format has the childhood icon educating us on everything from space to diet fads, and will even include special guest appearances. If nostalgia seems a little passé, you can also watch the premiere of Dear White People. The new adaptation comes from the cult classic of the same name and follows black students as they navigate in a predominantly white Ivy League college. The cinematic predecessor garnered some well-deserved acclaim following its 2014 release, so we're hoping the quality will carry over into this new TV spin-off.
Archie and the gang are making their way to Riverdale next week. The teen drama is back from a brief hiatus and will return with weekly episodes this April. Chelsea Handler's Netflix endeavour is also slated for April viewing, and will have the comedian deliver a second season of her unique late-night program. If you're itching to watch House of Lies or underrated Matt LeBlanc comedy, Episodes, you have a few more days to do so. Those aforementioned series will leave the streaming service at the beginning of April.
