Dame Dash isn't convinced Jay-Z's upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance is a good idea.
During a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder expressed concerns about Hov headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show in February. Dash said that a disappointing performance could damage Jay-Z’s legacy.
"If you do a show like the Super Bowl and it's terrible, it ruins your whole career," Dash said. "We all know he's going to bring out Beyoncé, but like you can't bring—I'm not going. Don't even call me for the Super Bowl."
Dash also made it clear that he has no interest in participating in the performance.
"I'm not going. I don't have any desire for that," he continued.
The former music executive compared Jay-Z's upcoming performance to Dr. Dre's star-studded Super Bowl halftime show in 2022, which featured Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent.
"When Dr. Dre and them came out, they brought out the whole team," Dash said. "So him just coming out there without the team and it could not be so good. And how many times can you bring Beyoncé out?"
He questioned whether bringing out artists who weren't instrumental in Jay-Z's career would have the same impact.
"Like how many guests that have nothing to do with your lineage? Like how can it resonate?” Dash said. “Either way, they're going to be on his head. Pause. So that could ruin you."
Dash also criticized Jay-Z's recent performances, suggesting that some of his decisions haven't worked in his favor.
"Every single show, I was like, why they keep doing this to him? I haven't seen it be positive for him not one time, to the extent that it's not even fun saying anything about it," Dash said. "It's like sad, but I don't understand the play."
He added, "Unless someone's lining him up or someone's just giving him really bad advice."
Jay-Z was officially announced as the Super Bowl LXI halftime headliner on Monday (Oct. 26) following a series of performances celebrating his major career milestones.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell previously revealed that he had hoped Jay-Z would eventually headline the show after Roc Nation partnered with the league in 2019.
