Lenny S. doesn’t foresee a Super Bowl LXI reunion between Jay-Z and Kanye West.
The Roc Nation music executive responded to an Instagram post by entrepreneur Rodney O’Neal McKnight, who shared his hope for the rappers to take the Super Bowl stage together next February. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the 25-time Grammy winner will take the stage at SoFi Stadium during the NFL championship, and fans are already predicting that special guests will also perform during the set.
Lenny, who’s worked closely with Jay-Z since the formation of Roc-A-Fella Records in the 1990s, replied to the post on Thursday (Oct. 29), writing, “This game is sadly developing too much amnesia.”
The A&R is likely referencing Ye’s previous insults about Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s 9-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir, whom the Bully rapper seemingly implied has mental disabilities last year. While the couple didn’t respond to Ye’s tweets, Jay-Z has visibly distanced himself from his Watch the Throne collaborator within the last decade. The fallout allegedly began when Jay-Z and Beyoncé weren’t in attendance during the 2014 wedding of Ye and his now-ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.
Jay-Z, however, discussed Ye during his eight-part HBO documentary JAŸ-Z In 8, and called the rapper-producer "one of the most brilliant creatives we're ever going to see.”
"No matter what, he's always ... had this space for me and this reverence as his big brother," Jay-Z told host Rick Rubin. "Obviously he does his things ... but I know he hasn't lost that feeling."
