Gap Launches Most Sustainable Collection Yet in Celebration of World Water Day

The Generation Good collection is part of Gap's larger goal of promoting sustainability company-wide by using less water and better materials.

In celebration of World Water Day, Gap is stepping up with what it says is its most sustainable capsule to date.

The capsule, part of the brand’s Generation Good push, is comprised of everyday essentials across generations in the adult, teen, kids, and babyGap divisions. Gap is also launching exclusive styles, all designed as part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign campaign, which together make up their most sustainable denim collection yet.

The Generation Good facet of the latest pieces from Gap are all made from organic and recycled fibers, which means everything from using less water to achieving lower emissions in the production process.

Since 2016, according to a press release, Gap Inc. has saved an estimated 402 million liters of water, which is roughly the equivalent of 804 million bottles and 201 million days of daily drinking water. And since 2014, a reported 11.2 billion liters have been saved, resulting in Gap Inc. surpassing its previously announced goal of 10 billion by 2020.

By 2025, Gap Inc.’s goal is to use 100 percent sustainable cotton. In recent years, Gap has used five-percent recycled cotton in its denim and 100 percent organic cotton in its kids and baby designs, as well as 100 percent recycled nylon in select outerwear pieces.
