Cam Newton Gave Up ‘Climaxing’ for March to Keep His Mind Sharp

He's got more than a week to go.

In an effort to toughen up his mind for the next grueling NFL season, Cam Newton has opted not to "climax" for the month of March. Whether the two are actually in any way connected won't be known until the fall (and even then who the hell knows?) so try to make a mental note of it just in case he makes another MVP run.

The Panthers' signal-caller revealed his offseason plan on Wednesday night when talking to James Corden and David Boreanaz on The Late Late Show. "In March—I hope this is an adult crowd, it looks like it is—no climax," he said.

Something tells us, successful or not, the majority of his gridiron peers won't be following suit.

Cam also said that, in January, he'd placed a self-ban on betting and, in February, he'd gone vegan. So if this trend continues pretty soon he's not going to have much to do.

When Boreanaz chimed in that he picked the wrong month (a.k.a. one that's 31 days) to refrain from busting, he shared inspirational words that the team may be wise to engrave on his statue one day. “I wanted it to be challenging,” Newton said. “I’m coming off shoulder surgery.”

He also shared the rationale for the self-imposed Lent. “It makes my mind stronger. So when the season comes around, I say if I did those things, I’m mentally stronger,” he shared.

It's definitely a far cry from the #KeepPounding era, but whatever works works. Check out the entire exchange below:
