'Obsession' Director Curry Barker Drops New Horror Short 'Mama Bear' on YouTube

The new short packs a lot of tension into its five-minute runtime.

We’re bound to see a ton of Nikki-inspired costumes amid Halloween throwdowns this weekend, but first, Obsession director Curry Barker is marking the season with the YouTube rollout of a new short film.

Those familiar with Barker’s work prior to Obsession will note that YouTube was where he established his name before helming one of the biggest horror films in history, which makes Mama Bear, out today (Oct. 29), a shrewd way of satiating fans until next year’s feature-length horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts.

The Windows-sponsored short opens with Floyd (played by Jon Lee Richardson) receiving a frantic call from a friend warning him that he’s about to face violent retaliation, albeit for something he didn’t actually do, as is quickly made clear with the confirmed presence of someone else, or something else, lurking Obsession-esquely in the room with him.

Mama Bear also stars Katie Sarife, Ericka Kreuz, and Joshua Snyder. Catch it in full up top.

Obsession’s breakout star Inde Navarrette will host Saturday Night Live this weekend, on Halloween night no less. The aforementioned Anything But Ghosts, reuniting Barker with Obsession alum and longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson, hits theaters next May. Seth Rogen has already seen it, and he was decidedly impressed.
