According to TMZ, a permit has reportedly been filed with New York City to shut down streets surrounding Madison Square Garden from July 2 through midday on July 4. The filing requests space for tents, canopies, and production trucks, with city officials allegedly preparing for a major Swift-related event at the iconic venue.
The reported paperwork is the strongest logistical evidence yet supporting claims that Madison Square Garden—not Rhode Island—could host one of the year's biggest celebrity weddings.
The filing didn't emerge in a vacuum. Over the past several weeks, reports have steadily shifted away from the Rhode Island wedding narrative that dominated earlier this year.
Initial reports claimed Swift and Kelce planned to marry near Swift's Westerly estate, with the nearby Ocean House repeatedly linked to the ceremony.
Those reports eventually unraveled as venue officials pushed back on speculation, and additional reporting pointed toward New York instead.
Since then, the clues have continued to pile up. Reports claimed save-the-dates listed New York City and July 3, while sources later said Swift had personally texted guests with updated wedding information instead of relying on traditional invitations.
"We know it coincides with the Knicks' Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift's wedding—all happening at the same time," Mamdani said during a press conference.
TMZ also reports that several Kansas City Chiefs players have already booked rooms at the New York Marriott Marquis for the same holiday weekend, adding to speculation that the NFL contingent is preparing for Kelce's wedding. Nearby businesses are already bracing for increased security and road closures if the event goes forward as expected.
