Jennie has released "Someone to Hold," a new track set to appear in Netflix's upcoming animated film, Steps.
The song was written and produced by acclaimed songwriter Justin Tranter, who's described it as "pure danceable joy inspired by vintage organic dance pop," per Billboard.
A lyric video for the track is now live, featuring animated characters from Steps in different scenarios.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Jennie explained the project was a first for her. "I am so excited to join the Steps family, and it was really fun making my first song for an animated film!" she said. "I love how much heart and personality the characters have, and I'm so happy I got to be a little part of their world. I hope you enjoy Steps and 'Someone to Hold' as much as I do, and I can't wait for you guys to hear it!"
Directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa have also spoken about the song’s connection to the central relationship of the film. "We love how Jennie's bright and spirited 'Someone to Hold' represents Lilith, Cinderella, and Margot's sisterhood, giving audiences a shot of energy and positivity straight to the heart," they said in a statement.
The official synopsis of Steps follows Lilith (Ali Wong), who swipes the Fairy Godmother's wand and takes over the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu). That leaves the kingdom under Priscilla's (Nikki Glaser) rule, and Lilith has to join forces with Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried).
Daniel Radcliffe voices the Prince, Peter Dinklage plays Roderick, and Bette Midler takes on the Fairy Godmother. Amy Poehler produces with Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing.
Tranter wrote and produced all four original songs on the soundtrack.
Along with Jennie's single, the soundtrack features Rose Gray's villain song "Meet Me on the Dance Floor," EMEI's "The Understudy," and Seyfried's "Smile and a Song."
Jennie has had a busy year so far. BLACKPINK's Deadline arrived in February, and her solo single "Less Than a Lover" came out in July, both following her debut solo release, Ruby, in March of 2025.
