Bad Bunny has shared a message of support with the people of Venezuela after devastating earthquakes killed more than a thousand earlier this week.
On Saturday (June 27), during a performance in London at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Benito paused his show to show love to Venezuela in the midst of the country’s difficult time.
"To our brothers and sisters in Venezuela. All Latinos around the world are standing with you. We send you a lot of strength — you are a very strong country,” he said, in Spanish.
On Thursday (June 24), 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes struck Venezuela, leading to a growing death toll that, as of Saturday, was listed at 1,430 people, according to the Associated Press. At least 68,900 people have been reported missing.
In the hours and days after the twin earthquakes, Latin music stars rallied behind the country and issued statements confirming their support.
"Venezuela. My heart is with all the people affected by this painful tragedy," J. Balvin wrote on social media. "May those who are still missing be found alive, may the injured recover soon, and may the country find strength and hope in the days ahead."
"Today my heart is with every family in Venezuela that is living through moments of anguish and uncertainty," wrote Maluma. "From afar, I want to send you all my strength, my affection, and my prayers. We are with you."
"My dear people of Caracas and all the Venezuelan people, today the world looks at you with concern, but also with immense affection," Ricky Martin wrote. "My thoughts are with every citizen, every rescuer, and every family that waits for a hug, a piece of news, or a miracle. May hope be stronger than pain, my people. All my solidarity and my love for you."
After the earthquakes, President Trump authorized the deployment of 80 search and rescue teams to assist Venezuela, as well as donated $150 million towards disaster relief. NBC reports that there will be an additional aid package worth nine figures.
