William Roberts III, the son of Rick Ross and Tia Kemp, told Daytona Beach police that a man attacked him outside of Bethune-Cookman University earlier this month.
According to the police report obtained by Complex, the encounter happened around 9:40 p.m. on Oct. 11 near the corner of McLeod Avenue and Weaver Street. Roberts said the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Don Roberts III of Daytona Beach, got out of a car holding a tan handgun. At the time, William was standing outside with a woman that Don allegedly had a previous romantic relationship with.
Court records say the suspect asked, "That's what we doing?" before aiming the weapon. Don allegedly told William, "I don't care who your daddy is, I'll kill you right here.”
The gunman then allegedly pistol-whipped William on the right side of his head with the firearm and drove off in what William described as a gray BMW or Kia. The victim drove himself home and told police he did not need medical attention.
William reported the incident the following day, saying he had waited because, per the police report, “he was in fear.” Despite the shared surname, the two men are unrelated.
Don turned himself in Oct. 16 on felony counts of aggravated assault and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He pleaded not guilty Oct. 19 and has requested to be released on a $50,000 bond, which will be addressed during a hearing on Wednesday (Oct. 21). Prosecutors have agreed to the request, but a judge will make the final decision.
The victim’s father has legal troubles of his own after being arrested Oct. 1 in Miami Beach on felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery charges, following domestic violence allegations by his ex-girlfriend, influencer Jazzma Kendrick. The rapper has denied the accusations and will also appear in court on Oct. 21 after being released on bail and briefly traveling to Paris.
