Jacquees believes that he and Ella Mai have moved past their rift over his unoffical remix of the Grammy winner’s 2018 single “Trip.”
The R&B vocalist revisited the song on the Wednesday (Oct. 28) episode of BET’s The Jason Lee Show and shared that he doesn’t have any malice towards Mai.
Following the release of his “Trip” ‘QueMix’ in 2018, the song was pulled from YouTube and Soundcloud after the singer was an issued a cease-and-desist by DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers Records, the imprint that Mai was signed to. The song saw viral popularity, which reportedly caused the British singer to block Jacquees on social media.
In the clip below, Lee recalled Mai’s shady tweet that was believed to be aimed at Jacquees. “I'd be so embarrassed if someone brung me on stage and the only thing I could sing was someone elses song because nobody knew my actual music," she wrote.
“Well, big shout out to Ella Mai. She’s a girl, so I expect girls to react in that type of way, but I'm a fan of her. You know, I've always been a fan,” Jacquees said in the clip below.
He claimed that Mai was a fan of his before he was even aware of her. He also said that he sent the singer his “Trip” remix before releasing it, and that she reacted positively.
“It was things that went on in the past business-wise that she probably didn't understand, and I feel like now she probably understands it,” he continued. “I wish her great success.”
Jacquees also said that he and Mai acknowledged each other at a Roc Nation brunch in 2023 after having tension. That same year, Jacquees claimed on The Baller Alert Show that Mai still had him blocked on Instagram.
In a 2019 Big Boy's Neighborhood interview, the singer said that Mustard “hated” on him by pursuing legal action over “Trip.”
