Coco Jones kept her composure during a New York City photoshoot while a rude passerby tried to push her buttons.
In a vlog posted on Tuesday (Oct 21.), the Grammy-winning vocalist recapped her time during New York Fashion Week, with one scene showing her posing for the camera outside a city bus. Around the 6-minute mark of the video below, Jones overheard a woman shouting “Ew!” at her before thanking them and continuing her photoshoot.
“You look so freaking Black! Blackie!” the stranger yells, which Jones ignores.
After two more snaps, Jones walks away, to which the woman again yells something, this time something inaudible. Rather than insult the stranger in return, Jones blew her a kiss before moving on.
The entertainer, who will soon lead a Bel-Air spinoff and reprise her role as Hillary Banks, has spoken about colorism in the past, noting her struggles as a child star. In the early 2010s, the 28-year-old was dropped from Disney’s Hollywood Records after releasing one EP and starring in network shows and films like Good Luck, Charlie and Let It Shine.
"I definitely used to have my issues with colorism and it wasn't something that I kind of chose it was kind of what was taught to me, like, 'Okay, I guess these type of girls are better. They get more jobs,'" Jones said on a 2025 episode of Sway In the Morning.
She continued, "I'm just not going to let the world make me feel like I'm a lesser version of a quality girl, of beauty, of all of these things.”
