Key Takeaways

  • Boyz II Men has signed with Warner Records Nashville to release their first country album, due in 2027 and dubbed their 'Cowboyz II Men era.'
  • The project will be the Philadelphia trio's first new album in a decade, following 2017's doo-wop record 'Under the Streetlight.'
  • Shawn Stockman, Wanya Morris and Nathan Morris recorded the new material in Nashville with several award-winning songwriters, saying they want to be part of country music rather than become country artists.
  • The group built toward this shift over several years, including a 2018 Grand Ole Opry performance, a 2019 CMT Crossroads episode with Brett Young, and 2025 appearances with Cody Johnson at Stagecoach and at Nashville's Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th celebration.

Boyz II Men are heading to the country for the first album in ten years.

The R&B trio announced Monday (Oct. 26) that they have signed with Warner Records Nashville and are at work on their first country album, due in 2027, according to Rolling Stone, per The Tennessean.

The album will also be the group's first full-length in a decade, arriving after 2017's doo-wop set Under the Streetlight. The group currently has a fifteen-album discography, including their 1994 album, II, which is RIAA-certified Diamond with over 12 million copies sold in the U.S.

Boyz II Men, composed of Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman, formed the group Philadelphia in 1985 and have since won four Grammys and sold over 60 million records globally. Former member, Michael McCary, left Boyz II Men in 2003 for health reasons and tension with co-members.

"We've always been enamored with the storytelling component of country music," Stockman told Tennessean. "We love the genre so much, and at this point in our career we felt like it was the perfect time to dip our toes."

The vocalist and podcaster also mentioned the group’s country music, including Travis Tritt, Vince Gill and The Chicks.

"We've been a part of almost every genre of music. So this is one that we haven't really dug in like we'd always wanted to," he said. "I mean, we've done just about all we could do in R&B. So this is fun,” added Morris.

Boyz II Men have a history in the country music genre, from playing at the Grand Ole Opry in 2018 for a dedication to late musician Ray Charles and covering John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" at Nashville's Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th celebration.
