A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie honored slain Ghanian teen Javits Frimpong during his 10 Years of Artist Tour in Elmont, New York, this weekend.
In a video circulating social media, the rapper, who hails from the Bronx, invited concert attendees to join him in a moment of silence on Friday (October 30). The tour DJ also paid respects to late rappers PNB Rock, Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke.
The tour celebrates 10 years since A Boogie's 2016 mixtape Artist, and it opened with two shows at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, beginning on October 29, the same day 15-year-old Frimpong was killed.
Frimpong attended Bronx institution Dreamyard Prep and relocated to New York City from the Bronx roughly a year ago to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, a cab driver.
At around 9:24 a.m. on Thursday (October 29), the teen was shot once in the stomach near East 171st Street and Crotona Place. He made it roughly a block before he collapsed on the steps of Barnabas Hospital, where he died.
Frimpong's father believes bullying was behind the shooting. He told ABC7 NY that three days earlier, the principal notified him that two boys who were bullying his son had been suspended for a week.
Fellow Bronx native Cardi B has also spoken on the senseless murder, and explained on a recent Instagram Live that immigrant students are targets of bullying in New York City public schools.
Police have not arrested suspects and are still tracking down three teenage boys who ran from the scene wearing black sweatsuits and blue surgical masks.
Ghana's foreign ministry has ensured that they’re working with US authorities to get justice for Frimpong’s family, and anyone with information can contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
