On Friday, a major group of people around the internet were outrage after pop singer Demi Lovato's mother Dianna Hart took over her Snapchat and declared, "Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus." Lovato herself can be heard laughing in the background at her mother's rather crass joke. She also tacked on three laughing emojis over the short clip.

As is often the case when famous folks make light of serious situations, those on Twitter - especially from Brazil - wasted little time in dragging Lovato for her insensitivity. It didn't take long for the hashtag #DemiLovatoIsOverParty to start trending.

Others were just as quick to leap to the singer's defense.

Realizing that the controversy wasn't about to just go away, Lovato herself took to social media today to apologize and further explain the situation.

Onto the next internet outrage scandal.
