Young M.A hasn’t faltered on Tory Lanez.
The Brooklyn rapper sat down with Hot 97, where host Nessa asked if M.A was “nervous” to include Lanez on her new album, KWEEN.
“Hell no,” M.A responded at the 21:30-minute mark. She added, “I don't care what people talking about. It ain't got nothing to do with me. That's the homie.”
When Nessa pointed out that M.A has “loyalty” towards the incarcerated rapper, M.A responded, “I don’t play with loyalty.”
She continued, seemingly saying she’s loyal to Lanez to “an extent.”
“I actually listen to his music,” she explained, “I can't deny that. Like me and the Bros, we put Tory on and really rock out the Tory Lanez. So I'm a fan as well of his music. And then he's just a cool dude on the personal side. We talked numerous times even before he went in. He was cool people. So I don't look at it like that. … Whatever the internet got going on or whatever he got going on in his life, that don't got nothing to do with me. He's cool dude.”
Lanez appears on M.A’s KWEEN album cut, “Gyal Dem Ryte.” In late May, she defended her decision to have him on the album, sharing with Hot 97’s Mornings With Mero that she felt Lanez was perfect because of his versatility and ability to tap into dancehall-inspired sounds.
"Everybody know, all the bros know: we put on Tory, bam, we go up," she said. "And I like his sound, and I felt like he was just the perfect person for it, because I know he can get in that…bag."
She also advocated for him beyond music. "And, you know, I support him. Free that guy."
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. He’s eligible for parole in August 2029.
