Key Takeaways
- Donell Jones framed his nostalgic VERZUZ matchup with Joe as a celebration of their catalogs rather than a battle between the R&B veterans.
- Jones reunited with 702 for "Get It Together," while Joe brought out 50 Cent for "Wanna Get to Know You" and "Big Rich Town"; YG and Tyrese also attended.
- Joe topped the fan vote with 75 percent and won 14 of 16 rounds, while commemorative GAS trading cards launched in base and limited-edition foil versions.
Donell Jones and Joe fully embraced nostalgia for the latest VERZUZ, and just like previous events in the ongoing series, the pair brought out several special guests to mark the occasion.
"For me, it's not really a VERZUZ. It's a celebration," Jones said coming into the event. We not going to do what the other guys did where it’s beefing back and forth. We grown-ass men. We both have two great catalogs. We're going to treat it as such."
Check out a breakdown of everything that went down at the VERZUZ event, which has also been commemorated with official GAS trading cards.
702 showed up to perform "Get It Together" with Donell Jones
The "R&B Nights" installment of VERZUZ featured several special moments, including 702 showing up to perform their 1996 gold-certified single "Get It Together," which Jones wrote and produced for the trio. The guest performance came up during Round 7 of the event, serving as a response to Joe’s "More & More."
Joe brings out 50 Cent for multiple tracks
Joe performed several of his high-profile collaborations during the event, including songs he made with Mariah Carey, Nas, and Big Pun. But when it came to Round 14, Joe responded to Jones playing "I Hope It’s You" by inviting 50 Cent to the stage to join him for a performance of their 2003 collaboration, "Wanna Get to Know You."
During his time on stage with Joe, 50 Cent also performed their song “Big Rich Town,” which also served as the theme song for Power. Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda also made sure to join for two on the stage.
YG pulled up
After facing off against The Game last month for his very own VERZUZ event, YG pulled up to the event to show love for Joe and Jones.
Tyrese also showed up
Tyrese, who also previously participated in a VERZUZ event when he faced off against Tank in March, made sure he didn’t miss the show, too.
The fan vote had Joe come out on top
While the two R&B stars made sure the event was about celebrating each others careers, the track-for-track breakdown ended with Joe taking the win, 14 rounds to two, earning 75 percent of the fan votes. You can see the full breakdown on the official Donell Jones and Joe VERZUZ page here.
