Eladio Carrión names Bad Bunny as one of the reasons he believed a career in music was realistic.
During a recent interview on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, the 31-year-old rapper explained how watching his friend's rise flipped a switch for him.
“It's amazing to see him, bro,” Carrión said near the one hour and 25-minute mark in the video linked above. “Bad Bunny [and] other homies of mine from my hometown that popped off before I did. I always like to see my friends do great things.
He continued, “I never was the ‘I wish it was me’ type of person. To me, it was like, ‘Oh, snap. This dude's right next to me. He did this. Shit, I could do this.’ … If he was just right next to me smoking a roach [or a] blunt with me three days ago, and now that n***a making $10,000? I can make at least five bands a show. Shit, let me try. What do I got to do?”
“Seeing him go crazy every time and every time it's just inspirational, you know? It makes me want to go harder, makes me want to reach new goals, makes me want to leave my comfort zone and do different things also. And I think I speak for the whole genre when I say that,” he concluded.
Carrión's proximity to that breakthrough is literal. He and Bad Bunny first crossed paths in Puerto Rico while Carrión was headed to enroll in college classes, and Bad Bunny pulled up an early SoundCloud version of "Diles" for him on the spot.
"This is the hardest song I've heard this year," Carrión recalled telling him, according to Remezcla. He then played the track for Noah Assad, his manager at Rimas Entertainment at the time, a hand-off that led to Bad Bunny's signing.
Eladio Carrión’s latest album, CORSA, arrived in April.
