Police Say Mass Shooting Near Denver’s Ball Arena Leaves 10 Wounded, Including Suspect

According to Gun Violence Archive stats, the shooting marks the 291st mass shooting in the U.S. this year alone.

At least nine victims were injured during a mass shooting near Ball Arena in Denver late Monday night, mere hours after the Denver Nuggets emerged victorious against the Miami Heat at the venue.

According to an initial statement from local police, the suspect—who had not been named in reports at the time of this writing—was also wounded. At first, police said the shooting—which occurred in the 2000 block of Market Street approximately a mile from the arena—had resulted in four victims.

In a subsequent update, the Denver Police Department amended that number to nine total victims. Of them, three are in critical condition; the remaining victims, as well as the suspect, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

In a report from WBNS-TV, Doug Schepman—a department rep—was quoted as saying that the shooting broke out amid “the largest gathering” of post-game celebration participants. What spurred the shooting, however, remained undetermined at the time of this writing.
