Voletta Wallace Slams Kendall and Kylie Jenner for 'Disrespectful’ Biggie and 2Pac Shirts (UPDATE)

"I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2Pac and my son Christopher to sell a t-shirt," Wallace said.

UPDATED 4:45 p.m. ET: Kendall Jenner has issued a statement, calling the shirts' design "not well thought out." Jenner also confirmed that all shirts from the collection have been pulled:

The launch of Kendall and Kylie Jenner's vintage T-shirt collection was met with immediate backlash Wednesday. The collection featured a variety of vintage band tees for artists like 2Pac, Metallica, the Notorious B.I.G., Kiss, and more. The twist? Kendall and Kylie had emblazoned their faces atop them:

Thursday, Biggie's mother—Voletta Wallace—expressed the estate's disapproval of the T-shirts. "I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this," Wallace said in an Instagram post. "The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me.  I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2Pac and my son Christopher to sell a t-shirt. This is disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!"

Though the Kendall and Kylie line's official website still had a landing page promoting the vintage T-shirt collection at the time of this writing, the shirts appear to be no longer available. It's unclear, however, if the shirts simply sold-out or if the items were pulled. A tweet from Kylie's Twitter account promoting the vintage tees has since been removed. Images of the tees have also been removed from the @KendallAndKylie Instagram account.

For anyone wondering about the potential legal ramifications of such a shirt, Consequence of Soundnoted Thursday that the issue isn't exactly as simple as some might assume. In 2016, for example, attorney Howell O'Rear explained why a trademark claim in the instance of Topshop using the band Against Me!'s name on a leather jacket without their permission likely wouldn't go very far in court. "The name Against Me! was not used to indicate the source or producer of the jacket," O'Rear said. "Instead, it was part of the design of the jacket, which features many other band names."

According toTMZ, a lawyer for the Biggie estate sent off a cease and desist letter Thursday with a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday. Attorney Julian K. Petty has allegedly threatened legal action if the shirts aren't permanently removed.
