Traffic conditions in Midtown Manhattan are even worse than usual, which can only mean one thing: The annual Met Gala is in full effect. This year’s event, titled: “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”, pays homage to the illustrious designer and her avant-garde label.
74-year-old Kawakubo has helmed Comme des Garçons for almost 50 years, and to this day continues to innovate silhouettes and proportions in fashion, as well as challenge our perceived notions of conventional beauty. She will be the only living designer to be honoured with a solo Met exhibition since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.
Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between runs from 4 May to 4 September at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York.
Meanwhile, celebrities swathed in their best CDG-inspired looks, have started descending upon the Met’s blue-and-cream carpet.
