In celebration of the opening of its flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York City, French fashion outlet Moncler recruited Spike Lee to direct a short film in conjunction with the brand. Meant to represent the spirit of New York, Spike Lee's Brave debuted during the store's grand opening on Nov. 16.

The film opens with a series of photographs and short video clips of everyday life in NYC. Featured on top of these is a famous portion of Emma Lazarus' "The New Collosus." "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The retched refuse of your teeming shore," reads a voice as the short film begins. It features a mix of "Brave (Suffering Beautiful)," a song from the off-Broadway musical The Total Bent, and stars the dancers Lil Buck, John Boogz and Damaris Lewis, who are seen dancing throughout the streets of NYC.

"I deeply believe that New York City is The Greatest City on this God’s Earth. I am A Storyteller. And I decided to Film on a sweltering muggy August day, probably the Hottest Day of The Year," read a quote from Spike Lee included in the video's caption. It goes on the explain that "the Music is modeled after the sounds of the City, in its infinite Contradictions and Beauty, with its magical atmosphere, engaging and evocative. This approach to storytelling weaves a passionate emotional tale about the Big Apple’s Mix and multiplicity of Souls, its Multi-Ethnic Flavor."
