6 Outfits to Rock on Day 1 of Classes

It’s been the uniform for about a year or so, and you’ve replaced Yeezy piece after Yeezy piece with updated versions of essentially the same item. Now that you have six months’ worth of TLOP merch and countless pop-up shop visits (aka Grailed snipes) under your belt, your classmates fully expect the look to stay intact. Since you’re definitely not willing to put yourself $53 million in debt trying to look fly, being semi-economical with your seasonal picks—knowing they need to last for a while—is the ultimate strategy. Here’s the gear you should cop.

You just finished interning with an up-and-coming luxury streetwear brand and boy, it was awesome. And of course, you were exposed to the day-to-day stylings of the jaded fashion faction. So naturally, you show up to school looking like you just made Kylie Jenner giggle on a photoshoot because you accidentally called her "Jylie Kenner." What are you wearing exactly? A sleek, minimalistic, all blue everything outfit featuring a well-fitted polo and slim, tapered, and pleated trousers. To cap it off, you don a pair of trainers with a slender silhouette. And since backpacks are soooo 2000-and-late, a laptop sleeve carries everything you need for the first week of classes because who needs books these days? Yeah, you’re a true fashionhead in their eyes, now.

You were seething over that publication’s coverage of Skate Week, but you also have the attention span of a goat, so it’s yesterday’s news. The only thing you’re outwardly concerned about is when the next skate session is and living your Cozy Boy™ lifestyle in peace. Your aesthetic, which can be summed up by the shrugging emoji, is calculated to prevent classmates, teachers, and people in general from getting all up in your business. The outfit also detracts those considering to ask where you got your “dope skatewear” for fear of humiliation, so your un-ironic, '90s era snapback, and jacket are usually met with side-eyed stares and cautious nods of approval. Unfortunately, everyone knows where your sweats come from: shoutout Supreme. They’re neither luxury nor athletic. Perfect. And shoes are for NARCs, but some iconic slides are the best way to tell people, “Don’t tread on me, man.”

You love New York. You love the culture. You love walking the streets solo dolo, blending in seamlessly as you ignore any- and everyone. You’re jaded by the doldrums of the city life, but you’re internally screaming with joy. The city’s dark, moody ambience totally correlates with the style category you want to be in; mixing black with darker shades of black. You supplant “color” with the cuts of the garments and some sort of exaggerated long top, cropped pant, or (in this case) both. The occasional white sneaker will see the light of day if you’re feeling especially, “Whatever, who cares?” because you want to dissuade people from referring to you as a straight up goth since you are merely fashionably versatile. You have the reputation as the “fun guy,” even though it’s not a persona you’ve actively tried to construct. It's just that innate ability you have to be the life of the party, and people gravitate towards you because you seem like an open book. A strong presence on campus can sometimes attract that hateration, but you don’t have any true enemies. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that you’re a mini-influencer whose corny dad cap, effervescent hoodie, and signature camo pants start a movement on campus. You’re definitely not one to proverbially tip-toe around the party, as you like to think that the dirtier the shoes, the more fun you’ve had. Life as campus connoisseur is taxing at times, but someone has to do it, right?

The minute you walk into a party, you’re bestowed with the mic as if it’s a dish of holy water to be dispersed among your disciples. Just bars on bars on bars. Everyone knows you as the guy who’s on the verge of catching the break that lands you a record deal. You appreciate the B.I.G.s, Jay Zs, Kid Cudis and pre-808s Kanyes that paved the way for your whole essence, from rapping to fashion. Your style is cool, but understated; classic, but fresh. There’s nothing basic about your fit, even though you have your “necessities,” including a lumberjack flannel, black denim, and the staple boots you were taught (at a very young age) to wear no matter the temp. Your backpack, which carries a day’s worth of school and extracurricular items, is the standout piece that ties everything together.
