UPDATED 4:00PM E.T.: Goyard has confirmed that Khaled used Goyard silk for his custom shirt.

See below for original story published.

The French label Goyard, known for its luxe leather goods, has become a staple in the hip-hop community. Artists like Kanye West and Pharrell have been longtime fans of the centuries-old label, but it's DJ Khaled who has recently claimed the title of "Goyard DON."

Over the past week, the We the Best Music mogul has been sharing several photos on social media of colorful Goyard bags and patterned Goyard tops. Most recently he posted a picture of himself on Instagram wearing a silk Goyard jacket, but many were quick to notice that Goyard doesn't actually make clothing.

not at all, we only offer silk scarves & cashmere travel items in terms of textiles.

Twitter users started reaching out to Goyard to see if Khaled's jacket was legit. The label was quick to respond that it is "most likely a total fake" and that the company doesn't even make jackets.

They🚷don't want me to use REAL @Goyard scarves so I did!Im fat boy lot my vibes is custom Goyard Im make pants, shirts using your scarves to

Goyard also appeared to suggest that Khaled could have used counterfeit scarves to make the jacket.

Khaled has responded to Goyard's claim saying the piece was in fact custom made using real Goyard scarves, and that he plans on making more pieces.

Wearing personalized designer gear is nothing new, especially in hip-hop. The tradition of making custom pieces can be traced back to the iconic work of Dapper Dan in the '80s. The Harlem-based tailor is credited with dressing some of the industry's most respected artists like LL Cool J and Big Daddy Kane in patchwork pieces that incorporated labels like Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
