This month, V magazine has unveiled two new covers featuring Hedi Slimane and Karl Lagerfeld. Lady Gaga, the magazine's guest editor, chose the style veterans for the 99th edition that honors her "Fashion Guard" with 16 different covers.

The singer brought the old friends together after not working with each other for a decade.

The two originally met 20 years ago when Slimane paid a visit to Lagerfeld's studio. Lagerfeld then went on to shoot backstage photos for Dior Homme during Slimane's run as the brand's the creative director. Lagerfeld shares with V that that experience inspired him to slim down, which explains why he often says that fashion is the best motivation for losing weight.

"I saw that in order to wear his clothes, one had to be skinny, so I went on a diet," Lagerfeld says. "From then on I felt good in his clothes, as I do again today."

Lady Gaga had Slimane and Lagerfeld shoot black and white portraits of each other for the cover. Slimane is captured in a moody shot with his head down, while Lagerfeld looks exactly the same as he does in every other photo with his dark shades and signature white hair.
