Rick Owens has been living and working in Europe for over a decade, but the California-born designer has returned home to open a flagship store.

Owens launched his namesake line in Los Angeles in 1994, and now he will open his first-ever location in the city. The new 5,200-square-foot space is a former ribbon factory that was built in the 1920s. For the renovation, the designer teamed up with architect Ann Tumaiani who he has collaborated with on several projects with.

His goal with the space was to create something worthy of filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, he told the Los Angeles Times.

"Epic, biblical movies were the first idea of exoticism I could cling to when I was growing up and have influenced everything I do — doomed heroic purity in black and gray-draped robes in huge, dusty, marble temples. This store is as close as I might ever get to re-creating that," he said.

The theatrical interior has features like a floor to glass tank that fills with fog and an abstract swimming pool.

The store is now open and  located at 819 N. La Brea Ave.
