Today in publications blatantly ripping off black culture and branding it as the next big thing,Ā Elle CanadaĀ has put forth the dashikiĀ as "the newest it-item of note."

ElleĀ has already deleted the tweet that used that exact wording, however, the piece titled "Is the dashiki the new kaftan?" remains on the site. People across social media are outraged that the publication would posit a traditional African garment with such deep roots to black culture as something "new."

Unfortunately, we've seen multiple cases of this recently. Allure tried to demonstrate an afro on a white model, Kylie Jenner got called out for wearing cornrows, and Thom Browne and Junya Watanabe may have crossed the line at fashion week.

See a selection of the justifiably angryĀ and irritated tweets regarding the dashiki piece below.Ā

1)it's been around forever the dashiki isn't new 2) let's not encourage cultural appropriation https://t.co/yLuW0I2Hi8
