If you needed another reason not to rock skinny jeans, it looks like scientists have found one. The tight denim style has now been found to cause compartment syndrome, a condition that occurs as the result of increased pressure in a confined body space.

According to a study published today in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, the discovery came after a 35-year-old woman suffered a swollen leg that was so bad that she couldn't walk. After arriving at the hospital, she shared with the doctors that she had been wearing skinny jeans while helping a family member move, which required her to squat for a long period of time. The doctors found that the woman had suffered nerve and muscle damage in her leg.

"I would certainly say, be cautious about wearing skinny jeans when doing this sort of activity," said the study co-author Thomas Kimber, a neurologist at Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide, to Business Insider.

As a result of her injuries, the woman was unable to walk for days. So, if you plan on doing any physical activity, you may want to go with sweatpants.
