There’s a piece of property in Paris, France, that pretty much shits on the world’s most exclusive and luxe real estate: It’s an apartment inside the Eiffel Tower.

Not only is it one of the most impressive architectural achievements of all time, the world wonder also served as a getaway for its designer, Gustave Eiffel, who built a small, but envy-inducing, apartment near the top of the structure.

Located on the third level, these digs were kept fairly hidden from the public—with only a select few knowing about its existence. In Henri Girard’s book, La Tour Eiffel de Trois Cent Mètres (The Eiffel Tower of 300 Meters), he explains that elite figures even attempted to rent out the space for “a small fortune,” but were straight up denied by Eiffel, who preferred to only host the most celebrated and prestigious individuals in the world (like Thomas Edison). But after being private for over a century, the 1,000-foot-high apartment is now open to the public, reports Atlas Obscura

If you’re unable to see the space in-person, you can get an idea of its interior from the images below. And, no, those aren’t the ghosts of Eiffel and Edison—they’re positioned mannequins to give attendees that authentic, and mildly creepy, feel.
