Following the announcement that New York Fashion Week will no longer take place at Lincoln Center, organizers recently disclosed even more changes we can expect come September. After next month’s shows, the title of the entity will go from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to New York Fashion Week, after Mercedes-Benz announced it will no longer sponsor the event past February.

“Our relationship with fashion is not ending, and we do support fashion globally,” said a Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman, citing sponsorship of fashion weeks in Sydney, Istanbul, and Berlin, among others. “We maintain a top-tier portfolio of events. We routinely review those events for return on investment and general engagement. In general, it’s important to note that fashion and design are key pillars for Mercedes-Benz, and we will support fashion well into the future. Globally, Mercedes-Benz supports more than 50 fashion engagements in 30 countries.”

Furthermore, WME-IMG, which owns Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, is close to finalizing a deal to acquire Made Fashion Week, a rival company that also hosts collections at the same time. Though the acquisition won’t occur until September, many industry insiders are already questioning how this change will affect Made’s dynamics as it has always championed lesser-known designers by giving them free venues downtown.

Though the new location for NYFW has yet to be announced, officials did tell WWD that it was in negotiations for a downtown spot. Stay tuned as more information is released.
