The saying goes that it's not what you know, it's who you know, and now a new pop-up shop is taking this idea to a new level. OnePiece, a loungewear brand that specializes in onesies and counts Angela Simmons and Khloe Kardashian as fans, just opened a pop-up in SoHo that tests this theory, allowing customers to pay for goods with their social media followers.

Customers connect their social media accounts to the OnePiece ambassador system, which tallies up their followers across all major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Vine, Pinterest, YouTube, and LinkedIn. For every 500 followers, shoppers will get a $1 discount through Nov. 17 and can earn up to $500.

Marc Jacobs was the first brand to gain attention for allowing customers to "pay with a tweet" at pop-up stores in both New York City and London earlier this year. This concept is just the latest in a line of experimental initiatives that are bridging the gap between social media and ecommerce, such as Starbucks' "Tweet a Coffee" and even the Twitter "Buy" button that it started testing a few months back.

The old saying "cash is king" will have to be revised soon if this trend keeps up. Clout is king does have a pretty good ring to it.
