Though he typically maintains a low profile, Martin Margiela, the Belgian designer who founded his eponymous fashion house in 1988, has come out and expressed his approval of John Galliano as the newly appointed creative director of Margiela, a move that was made this past October.

According to WWD, the 57-year-old designer has told sources that following his departure in 2009, he was anxious to see the brand gain a new leader.

You may recall that in 2011 Galliano was terminated from Dior following an anti-Semitic rant in a Paris cafe. Though he did not face any jail time for the slurs (despite being convicted), many people assumed Galliano would never regain his industry clout. But last month, it was announced that he would oversee all lines from Margiela, which shocked many, as the label is known for its low-profile production.

In an interview earlier this year, Margiela owner Renzo Rosso defended the decision.

“John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time,” he told Bussiness of Fashion. “A unique, exceptional couturier for a Maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.”

Clearly, the late-great Oscar de la Renta isn't the only fan of Galliano
