Saint Laurent might be one of the biggest design houses in the world, but its creative director, Hedi Slimane, is no stranger to controversy. Kanye West famously ranted about him on his Yeezus tour stop in New York City, and now A.P.C.’s head honcho, Jean Touitou, has come forward with some choice words about his fellow designer.

Touitou recently criticized Slimane’s ego in fashion journal Vestoj, saying, “An editor can’t even use his clothes in a photo shoot unless it’s as full total looks. Not even a sock by another designer is allowed. It’s like he thinks he’s the Kaiser or something.” He also questioned Saint Laurent's rock n’ roll aesthetic, commenting, “The brand is trying to establish connections between what Slimane is doing and what Yves Saint Laurent himself did by saying that Slimane is working the rock ‘n’ roll vibe in homage to YSL. The official party line is that Yves Saint Laurent hung out with Mick Jagger in the 1970s, and that the relationship between Slimane and his rock star friends is just the same. But YSL was never into rock n’ roll; he was into reading Proust.”

Touitou is famous for his brash honesty when it comes to other designers and other brands, but he also told Vestoj, "Slimane bashing will stop soon anyways because it's fashion and people get tired of bullshitting about the same subject." He also said it doesn't really matter what anyone thinks about Slimane or Saint Laurent, because "the brand probably sells a lot in China, and as long as you're financially successful you're pretty bulletproof."
