While traveling through Europe, Beyoncé and Jay Z have been soaking up the local culture. In Paris last week, the two got a private tour of the Louvre, where they took a picture with the Mona Lisa that basically blew up the Internet, spawning a virtual storm of Photoshop parodies. Next up, the closest thing to American royalty landed in London, where they visited the city's galleries and spent a night at the Arts Club, a historic and prestigious arts organization in London's West End. The two were spotted arriving at the Club wearing blazers and denim despite the venue's strict dress code.
According to the Arts Club's website, "This Club is instituted for the purpose of facilitating the social intercourse of those connected with, or interested in Art, Literature, or Science." The organization offers private tours of exhibitions, including Frieze London, which opened today. The Arts Club is located in Mayfair, the neighborhood where Bey and Jay purchased an $8.7 million townhouse prior to their "On the Run" tour. We wouldn't be surprised if the couple takes the Arts Club's private tour of Frieze London to buy some pieces for their new home, seeing as the two have already amassed an impressive art collection, including, among others, works by Hebru Brantley, Laurie Simmons, Richard Prince, and the rap world's art darling, Jean-Michel Basquiat.
In addition to visiting the Arts Club, Beyoncé and Jay Z also toured London's gallery district. They were spotted with Anish Kapoor, an Indian artist best known for Cloud Gate, the giant mirrored sculpture in Chicago's Millennium Park. Beyoncé was also seen leaving David Zwirner Gallery, which is currently showing Kerry James Marshall's exhibition "Look See." Marshall is an American artist who paints real and imagined scenes from African-American history. This is her first show at David Zwirner.
