Known as Kanye West’s creative consigliere, Virgil Abloh has made it his personal mission to deliver a sophisticated variation of streetwear that adheres to the standards of high-end fashion. Which is exactly what he accomplished when he debuted his Off-White spring/summer 2015 collection earlier this week.
Though heavy on the oceanic references, the range is notably more urban than it is beach—using popular features of contemporary streetwear, such as elongated hemlines, mesh detailing, and bold logo placement, the latter being considerably more subtle than what we saw in Abloh’s previous label, Pyrex Vision.
In fact, the collection as a whole seems like a much more well-rounded offering than Off-White's debut season, which caught the eye of retailers like Barneys and Union Los Angeles.
Still, it seems like Abloh continues to have an affinity for monochromatic styling, patch details, and layering. That said, the use of bold patterns and an extensive color palette prevents the collection from looking too contrived and too familiar.
