Looking for a way to make something beautiful while also getting rid of all that useless crap in your crib? Well, you're in luck because photographer Dan Tobin Smith is currently in the business of turning junk into art for his upcoming installation at the London Design Festival 2014.

For the installation, titled "The First Law of Kipple," Smith will cover his studio in little trinkets known as "kipple," a term coined by sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick, which Dick defines as "useless objects, like junk mail or match folders after you use the last match or gum wrappers." Because the project is so ambitious, the photographer has issued a "call for kipple" to get more materials for his "chromatically-themed arrangement of thousands of objects."

The website includes an introduction to the project, a checklist so that you can tell if your junk is kipple or not, useful definitions, and instructions on how to donate. The checklist is an important way to distinguish between kipple and trash. Trash can be found anywhere, but as Smith explains, kipple "also has a psychological aspect because of the way waste or clutter affects you."

Check out a couple of the kipple-related artworks below that Smith has posted to his Instagram, and head to callforkipple.com to learn more about how you can participate.
