It's hard to forget who Kehinde Wiley is after you've seen one of the New York-based painter's works. Whether he's painting Swizz Beatz, a pair of men he met during his travels in Cameroon, or the world's most loved sport, Wiley's portraits are memorable for their rich colors and ornate backdrops.
Known for portraying modern men against elaborate backgrounds that hark back to the classical paintings of yesteryear, Wiley has teamed up with Grey Goose and created a series of "Modern King of Culture" portraits, honoring some of the world's most brilliant men.
Last week, Wiley unveiled his portrait of acclaimed filmmaker, producer, and writer Spike Lee, a man who definitely deserves to be immortalized in painting form and framed. It depicts Lee standing tall inside a leafy forest, against the background of a dramatic sky. Pretty sick, right?
