It's not hard to see why some people regard Christie's as a world open to only the elite. Let's face it, not everyone can afford to roll into the auction house and leave with a Basquiat. However, Christie's latest promotional video for an upcoming contemporary art sale gets gritty and feels a little closer to home. It allows the public an inside look into the stockroom of the world's largest fine arts auction house. Never before has fine art looked so accessible. That's probably because the video sees professional skateboarder Chris Martin tearing through the warehouse like it's his very own skate park.
By far the coolest thing Christie's ever done, the four-minute short film shows Martin jumping, shredding, and even crashing dangerously close to a bunch of the priceless artworks like Andy Warhol's Little Electric Chair and Richard Prince's (Untitled) Cowboy, all of which will go on sale in Christie's "If I Live I'll See You Tuesday" Contemporary Art Evening Sale happening May 12.
The funny thing about this video is that it "will likely never be seen by the people with deep enough wallets to afford the trove of artwork," as HuffPo recently pointed out, but it's still pretty cool, right?
