In conjunction with his current retrospective, MOCA has announced that they will present Mike Kelley's "Mobile Homestead" public art project for the first time in Los Angeles later this month.
The site specific project was developed by Kelley in collaboration with Artangel and MOCA Detroit as a community center. It resembles the artist's childhood home in Westland, a suburb of Detroit, and was designed in two parts: the permanent installation at MOCA Detroit, and what the museum refers to as a "removable white clapboard façade to be dispatched to host social services and community initiatives."
"Knowing how aware Mike Kelley was of the political, historical and social issues that articulate and define our time, we felt that it was only true to his vision to bring Mobile Homestead to the city he cared for," said MOCA director Philippe Vergne.
The project arrives in Los Angeles on May 24 and the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts has made admission free on every Saturday in July from 6PM-10PM. For more information, head to the MOCA website.
