The National Portrait Gallery recently announced that this painting of pop star Katy Perry will go on view at the gallery on June 18. The portrait was completed by "New York academic portrait painter" Will Cotton and is entitled Cupcake Katy.

"Will Cotton’s tongue-in-cheek portrait of Katy as a ‘cupcake’ brings to mind a traditional European portrait of a bewitching 18th-century belle," says Portrait Gallery director Kim Sajet. "Sweet but no mere piece of ‘candy,’ the woman is accessorized but not labeled: she’s the one in control.” Cotton also designed Perry's "Teenage Dream" album cover and the set for her California Gurls video.

The portrait will featured as a part of "rotating display of recently acquired portraits," though the gallery hasn't listed the other portraits that will be shown.
