New York artist Todd James grew up graffiti tagging the streets of his hometown under the name REAS and then went onto design work for music greats like the Beastie Boys, Mobb Deep, Redman, Eminem, and even Iggy Pop. Today, James has established a name for himself in the fine art world with colorful canvases of gun-wielding pirates and pink nudes. On Feb. 27, James will open a show of new work called "Todd James: Supernatural" at Sandra Gering Inc in New York.

The show, which is James' third solo show at Sandra Gering Inc, puts his women on display. Maintaining his unmistakable bold colors and almost abstract shapes, James depicts warriors, sunbathers, sorcerers, and girlfriends, female figures that have appeared in many of his works in the past.

"Sometimes animated, sometimes relaxed, usually scantily clad and almost always humorous, these characters have proved to be emotional touchstones in a narrative that has balanced comedy and tragedy since the beginning of the artist’s career," reads the press release.

"Todd James: Supernatural" runs from Feb. 27 to March 29, 2014 at Sandra Gering Inc.
