Check Out the Next-Level Pop-Culture Paintings of James Rawson

A new, devastating take on pop art.

The work of the painter James Rawson is so complicit with issues of post-modernity its hard to separate the individual aspects of his massive painting into anything less than a devastating critique of our foci. Death, sex, food, and their inevitable consumer transaction all make appearances in the huge paintings of the British painter. Instead of distilling the individual units of our overwhelming, information-saturated culture at hand, Rawson unifies text, violence, and matters of the heart into a heterogenic portrait of the web-obsessed, over-active gen consumer.  It’s a terrifying, and at times beautiful, mirror to gaze into. Check out some of the work above and painting of the artist in progress below.
