One of the top dogs of street art, ROA recently surprised visitors to the White Walls SF gallery in San Francisco with an installation in the back room of the space. There were no previews of the work available before its opening, giving the show its maximum impact. The immersive, macabre menagerie is truly a sight to behold. Featuring ephemera from the artist’s travels, small-scale paintings of many different textures and ilk, and what are obviously sketches of familiar ROA mural work, “Paper Trails” functions as its name implies. It is a fleeting record of travels for the Belgian artist, as he traverses the globe in search of inspiration and new sites for his animalistic artistic endeavors.
