This brilliantly designed bridge in Purmerend, the Netherlands features two different pathways, one for cyclists below, and pedestrians above. One side of the riverbank is higher than the other, necessitating the slope of both paths. In order for ships to pass beneath the bridge, the lower path rotates out of the way, while the upper bridge, at a whooping 12 meters high, arcs high over the waterway. Designed by the Dutch studios NEXT Architects alongside Rietveld Landscape, the bridge connects the city center with the expanding Weidevenne district, crossing the Noordhollandsch Kanaal.
