The world has been mourning Lou Reed since the Velvet Underground frontman passed away on Oct. 27 at age 71 due to surgical complications. We saw the last photo ever taken of the music icon, a print ad for the headphones company Parrot.

Photographer Terry Richardson has paid tribute to Reed in his own way, sharing two images of the musician that he took in his studio. The first image is a black-and-white shot from 1996 where Reed wears a black turtleneck and velvet vest. The second image was taken 12 years later, in 2008. Reed rocks a Supreme shirt and aviators. In both shots, Reed exudes that effortless confidence that comes from years in the limelight, a rock star through and through.
